Bedside Shelves – Project

For the last ten years or so I’ve been moving house with two of these heavy shelf units. Chucked out by my Grandma they’ve proved themselves to be very handy pieces of furniture… Albeit covered in flakey varnish from the 70s and lots of mug stains and water damage to the back of one (the screws holding the back panel on were sehr rusty).

So after MUCH sanding and cleaning and removal of back panel and three coats of “Moonlight White” satin quick dry paint…

I left the top edge bare as I didn’t want to completely erase the unit’s identity!

I also made a vinyl matt to fit on the top layer to stop my mug circle habit:

Furniture fixed!

Project – Sewing table

I’ve had this old sewing machine table that I’ve been using as a computer desk for ages (it’s been a squeeze!). Well no more! I shall be turning it back into a sewing machine table and getting a lovely new desk (with a light box insert)!

So I’ve been contemplating sanding it down and painting it when I stumbled upon this website:

Totally going to cover it in oil cloth! Like stretching a canvas over the top, it’ll stop my sewing machine scratching the surface and will also be much easier to clean. Genius.

Plus John Lewis do oil cloth for half the price that Cath Kidston does it.

Birthday Bunting!

Ok so I didn’t make this particular bunting myself. But it arrived in the post today and I wanted to share how awesome Devon Bunting is!
I ordered it late Friday night and they made it and sent it over the weekend. Hoorah!

Devon Bunting - Mini Bunting

They do other larger bunting but I fancied some mini ones for a garden birthday party.

Last year I made some large bunting for Atta Girl with the name stitched in. This is the photoshopped banner for our website made from scanning my bunting in!

And here is a close up:

To make the Atta Girl bunting I cut out a triangle of cardboard to the size I wanted as a template. Allowed a 1.5cm seam around this. Two triangles of fabric were sewn back to back inside out, turned inside out and ironed flat.
For the bunting with letters on I purchased polka dot ribbon in three different colours, put the triangle (prior to sewing back to back!) into an embroidery hoop, pinned the ribbon in place to make the letters and hand stiched them into place.
Once all the triangles were sewn and ironed I then ironed a silver ribbon in half (about three meters worth). Placed the open edge of the top of the triangles inside this fold, pinned, then sewed along the edge = B U N T I N G!
Very easy, the only part that takes a lot of time is hand sewing the letters on, you could iron on some felt ones instead with iron hemming tape or just some glue!

Central City Rollergirls – Scarf Project

Whilst I’m unable to skate til this here fracture is healed, I sure am still dreaming of skating!

At a roller derby bout I saw the Middlesbrough Milk Rollers merch stand had some lovely roller derby scarves in their colours of pink and pastel blue and thought “wouldn’t that be ace to have a CCR scarf!”. Of course this was added to a long list of ideas of things to do. But now… I have rather a lot of time!

100% merino Rowan Big Wool, pink and black

I’ve always wanted to knit with some dead fancy wool such as Rowan. So I bought a few hanks of their big wool to knit a really fluffy and sumptuous scarf. Roller girls may well be hard as nails but we still deserve a bit of fluff and comfort!

And so… the project has begun.
100% merino wool (that’s the softest of the soft wools) with some lovely 12mm bamboo knitting needles (they have apples carved into the head! How twee is that) a k1,p1,k1,p1 pattern creating stripes of stretchy pink and black with the neck section in pink these beauties will end up being around 1.5m long.

They’re cute but practical like a Unicorn sandwich (the unofficial CCR mascot)

The Toe Cosy

At last! My own blog and site. It’s amazing what a broken ankle can inspire you to do when you have many hours of limited mobility ahead of you.

I’ve invented a new knitted product too!
