So I’ve been mighty busy with my final year M.Arch, however I have managed to squeeze in a new logo design for Indietracks festival. I’ve made the guide for the last four years but this is the first time I’ve done their logo and I’m quite fond of it!

It’s based on a traditional railway sign (or “totem”) like this:

Indietracks Festival is on the 26th-28th July this year and quite frankly I cannot wait! Especially as (fingers crossed) I’ll have graduated by then!

Ok so several months ago I drew an image that I was so very happy with. But had to keep it a secret until the album was launched, it was really hard! But I did and now Ace Bushy Striptease’s album “Outside It’s Cold Just Like The Inside Of Your Body And” has been released. You can obtain it here or here.

And the title of the album was the brief for the artwork. They had three different artists interpret the title. Lloyd Bowen did the cover, I did the reverse for the track list.

Atta Girl Nov 3rd

The next Atta Girl has been announced for the 3rd Nov! This poster is based on a photo of Karen O seeing as we always play Yeah Yeah Yeahs without fail at Atta Girl. I’ve also fancied having a symmetrical, two hands with the important information drawn on them as the focal point of a poster for a little while now but it only made sense on how to do this when I saw the Karen O image.

I also gave her “A T T A” on her nails and a firework background, it is November after all.

Thanks to Elderflower Tea zine (Sarah, who is also an Atta Girl DJ) we’ve brought back the mini zines! So look out for these as they’ll be available at several events and in The Vic and other places soon.

Zondini

My latest commission was for Mark Zonda’s side project “Zondini” sung purely in Italian, this new album is called ”Sole, Tele, Cereali Svedesi” that is “Sun, Telly and Swedish Cereals”.

So to try and capture all of these I went for a composition based on the film Flakes which is all about a cereal selling cafe. I’ve also gone for a different style for a change. The majority of my illustration work on here is very carefully inked. I create a rough sketch and then later ink it to get the effect I’m after. However the preliminary sketch I sent to Mark was loved so much that I developed it in this style. I draw freehand, no tracing! So really, this style suits me best. The only tracing I ever do with my lightbox is that of my own work to make alterations later. Anyway I can do this, line work, or block colour work really! Atta Girl – August 2012

Another Atta Girl poster! This was for the 18th August clubnight. We’ve started having two girls a poster of late this is in celebration of working with a lovely team of DJs now! The posters are probably always going to have more than one grrrl on the poster in the future. There’s also a heavy necklace theme going on as we treated ourselves to Tatty Devine necklaces this month!

There’s a Love Heart in her mouth that she’s grimacing about, it says “All Mine” on it. I guess it was just a little rejection of the obsessive behaviour towards relationships that teenage girls are led to believe is healthy. The older I’ve gotten the more I’ve realised that that was SO NOT healthy. Looking after yourself and being happy in who you are, not an obsessive “need” for another human being, that is what leads to sanity. Not the adrenaline infused love note writing and faux connection with other humans. Down with drama, up with happy times! In short, we don’t need Love Heart sweets to connect, but I’m not boycotting them, they still taste good! *crunches another heart*

Indietracks Guide and the Risograph

This years festival guide has been sent to Footprint as of yesterday! I wont get to see it until the actual festival now.

Footprint use a lovely old Risograph printer. This years cover has three inks, black, blue and red. So to get this printed I have to work out which areas I want in which colour and send over three different files (in black) in order for these layers to be printed. I love the affect these give! So although this looks like a single image and very pristine. The actual result will be on an off white card and quite likely slightly offset (adding to the charm of risograph printing!):

Indietracks Festival Guide Time!

It’s that time of year when I get to make my favourite commission, the Indietracks Festival Guide! I’ve cracked out all the computer power I have for it. Well, the right hand computer is what I used for the last four years worth of guides, so that’s just referencing. The rest are hard at work editing and compiling. I create all the illustrations in the guide too so I’ll release a few sneak previews over the next couple of weeks.

Guitar Pedal

So the last two months I’ve been fully absorbed in my Architecture Masters. It’s been brilliant and all consuming, stressful but adrenaline inducing! If my marks are good I’ll upload some of my final images, hell, even if they’re bad I will because I’m epically proud of what I created!

Anyhow during this time the band Ace Bushy Striptease received a gift from Syl who is in The Wendy Darlings (really really really good indiepop band!)…
A guitar pedal with the Ace Bushy tshirt design I drew on it. But now it’s The Ace Bushy Dirt Box!. I’ve never seen my work etched into metal, so happy it did make me!

Atta Girl Poster – 24th March 2012

Now that Atta Girl has become a collective I’m not solely responsible for the poster brief! I really like being set a challenge by someone else, so this one was set by Lauren “Two girls dancing”, a nice loose brief but I was worried about getting the detail in large enough as every single Atta Girl poster has only had one girl on it so far. It’s rather fitting to have more than one character on the poster now!

We also decided to have the Los Campesinos! lyrics on it (It’s you, it’s me, and there’s dancing!) as they have declared the night their official after party, hooray! The night will still be all Atta Girl tunes old and new but there might be a few more indiepop hits dotted about than normal. It’s been five months since we last got to DJ so there’s a lot of tracks of many genres to get played!

Anyway here’s to a new more colourful and populated Atta Girl poster phase:
